A Salute To Guides Everywhere!
10 Top Ways To Make Your Guide Consider A Career Change
By Grant Summerlin
- When booking the trip, inform your guide that you are prone to epileptic seizures, get kidney dialysis twice a week, and are recovering from surgery on both your knees. You can't walk very far or stay confined in small spaces for more than a couple of hours, but would like to get on uncrowded waters where the big fish don't get any pressure.
- Any time you see another fisherman or pass another boat yell over, "Are you catchin' any? We ain't catchin' shit!"
- Ask your guide how big the biggest fish he ever caught was and what fly he caught it on. Then ask him why you aren't using that fly.
- Whenever your guide gives you any advice say, "Yeah, I know."
- Lose five or six flies in about nine casts, then say, "I think I'd do better with a dropper."
- When casting small dries to a steadily rising fish, wait until your fly is mere inches from the trout, then make three quick strips "to make the fly look alive:"
- If you cast your fly into a tailing loop, immediately cast the line twice as hard and fast in order to fix it.
- Always cast in a manner that allows you guide to see your fly at close range as it whizzes past his face.
- Ask your guide what his real job is.
- At the end of a long day on the water, compliment your guide by telling him he has the patience of a saint. So much so, in fact, that he'd be the perfect guide to teach fly fishing to your five-year old triplets.

I'm Two For Two
Got the usual call from KPV Friday night inquiring about Saturday's fishing details. (For those counting this Saturday made the second weekend in a row yours truly was chasing tail...don't jump the gun and talk about a consecutive game streak just yet) Rewind to earlier in the week at our weekly round of golf (which I suck at equally) Doggie had mentioned joining us for some trout fishing Saturday if the weather cooperated. Fast Forward back to Friday night after deciding on a destination I phoned Doggie to see if he was still DOWN TO CHASE SOME WILD BROWN. The answer was yes and we agreed upon a time and a place to meet. After a return call to KPV to advise him of the rendezvous point and time, it was off to bed.
The alarm seemed to go off just as I had fallen asleep and after an early stop at Daisy's for an over sized helping of grease lighting I made it to our rendezvous point. We exchanged pleasantry's and were on our way... We made it to our destination around eight, geared up and hit the water. (After being trapped in a flood last Saturday that could only be compared to one the likes of only NOAH had experienced I was glad the forecast was calling for blue skies.) We had fished maybe one hundred yards up stream when the clouds began to dump rain... the first thing that came to my mind as I huddled under a pine along the stream was that maybe this was an omen, a sign that I needed to be at home possibly taking Cephus for a walk. After thinking on this a few seconds I realized I'd rather get wet fishing than be walking that dog... Then as quickly as it started, the rain was gone and we were left with a thick layer of steam blanketing the stream from the rains. We continued up stream and were immediately into fish. (Doggie managed his first Trout on the FLY thanks to our expert entomology skills.) We continued to pick up fish until afternoon commitments made us abandon ship and make the long walk to the car and back to reality. The end of the day turned out to be beautiful and before returning home KPV and I scouted this newish stream for camping locations as FLY will be making an overnighter (multiple nights) in the coming weeks! Our trip will also be the source of the second installment of FLY FILMS. Stay tuned! Until then enjoy some porn and scenery pics on us!

SERIOUSLY DISTURBING!
In the wake of the recent BP oil spill I can't stop thinking about how our (BP) carelessness effects the world and how sadly most of it goes unnoticed by the majority of the human race. I wont insult your intelligence as I'm sure you are already aware of the cards that have been dealt to the Bluefin Tuna. In light of this PREVENTABLE case of the brain squirts I think it's time someone stands up for animals such as the Bluefin... Hell they can't do it by themselves.
How Will the BP Oil Spill Affect Critically Endangered Bluefin Tuna?
Potentially Serious Long-Term Impacts
The Gulf of Mexico, where a massive oil spill is taking place right now, is also the spawning ground for the critically endangered (according to the IUCN Red List) bluefin tuna. Stocks have already fallen about 90% since the 1970s, and they could fall even closer to extinction because of this catastrophe. Indeed, the location of the spill and the timing are particularly bad for the bluefin tuna...

Many fish are going down to the Gulf to spawn," said Jackie Savitz, a marine biologist with Oceana, an international conservation group based in Washington. "The larvae of the fish is actually the most sensitive life stage to the toxic effects of oil. And one fish that's spawning right now down there is the bluefin tuna."The spill is right on top of one of the preferred breeding areas. And tuna isn't the only species that is at risk. This is a good reminder that while we must protect the shores from the spill, water ecosystems are also facing very serious damage that could take a long time to be repaired (if ever, in the case of species that are moving toward extinction).

FLY FILMS PRESENTS... SLIPPERY WHEN WET!
KPV and I got out Saturday to do some North GA Trouting. After a month hiatus it was nice to get out and catch a few trouts. Plus I was getting tired of Kyle's stories about all of the crazy fishing he had been doing and how I was missing out. I know all of the "said" stories were just a cruel ploy to remind me that I had not wet a line in over a month. Anyway at this point I would normally go into boring details about our EPIC trip... instead FLY has put together it's first installment (with many to come) of FLY FILMS. Although the first one is on the short side I think it tells the tale of the kinda day we had. Shit was slippery all day... ENJOY!

WTF??
What does 8G look like you ask?
According to Hardy it takes six continuous days of machining to make a single one and it has enough power to stop a Ranger Bass Boat at full speed! Put that in your pipe and smoke it chief!I'll take two!

Better Late Than Never...
Ok so I'm a bit late delivering your midweek cube farm relief... but give me a damn break. I'm only 50 minutes late and I have been shelved the for the last couple of days with the hay fever. (I feel like this kid...)
The shine is not kicking the cold which means I am going to have to pay a visit to the doctor followed by the local distillery to see if I can find out why the proof has dropped. Anywho on with the show...
