Nature Boy Designs

Seeing how I've been on a gear kick lately, I figured I'd keep the ball rolling with some new swag from Nature Boy Designs. While I do not own any of their gear (yet)... the NBD lanyard's are a thing of beauty, and I don't know about everyone else but I personally do not like feeling strangled by 10lbs of fishing gear hanging from my neck. The NBD 550 Wader Edition Lanyard solves this problem by keeping the necessities within reach without a visit to the chiropractor after a day on the water...  the Tailwrapped cap is pretty sweet to.

Check it out here.

More Dam Bad News

Last month, Congressman Doc Hastings (R-WA), Chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, introduced HR 6247, a radical bill that threatens salmon recovery, river restoration and collaborative community-based problem-solving across the country.
If this bill becomes law, restoration projects on rivers around the nation could come to a screeching halt. HR 6247 would end vital funding for conservation organizations working with farmers and landowners on voluntary habitat restoration projects. Federal agencies would be all but prohibited form helping local communities study or remove dams - even for legitimate safety, environmental or economic concerns. Restoration success stories like the Elwha River in Washington State or the Penobscot River in Maine would be doomed.
HR 6247 Would:
  • Block federal funding to remove or to even study the removal of out-dated or dangerous dams unless explicitly authorized by Congress.
  • Prohibit federal funding for organizations that have engaged in legal actions against dam projects anywhere in the country, including litigation to protect public health and safety or help imperiled species like salmon.
  • Give blanket permission to private businesses to build new dams, without appropriate environmental and regulatory review - and regardless of whether the projects serve the public interest.

An Inflatable Drift Boat... No Really It's An Inflatable Drift Boat

NRS CLEARWATER DRIFTER

Check out this drift boat… no really… look closer… can you tell what makes it special?

It’s inflatable. The Clearwater Drifter ($5995 MSRP) is made of drop-stitch PVC, can be inflated to around 9 psi, which creates a rigid, framed dory that offers the ability to bounce off rocks like a rubber raft, yet track quietly and silently like a drift boat. It’s 17 feet long, and 82 inches wide at the beam between oarlocks.

And it disassembles and can back down to a size that can fit in a trunk of a car, or be shipped via UPS. It weighs 300 pounds total (with frame).

I’m not sure how a boat that light will do in a heavy upstream wind (no boat I’ve rowed does greatin a wind like that)… but I can see the immediate appeal for many anglers. This is the drift boat for the guy who can’t talk his wife into letting him dedicate a space in the garage, or leave it under a tarp in front of the house.
