Friday Cheer Through Pics... + Trip Reportage

I know I promised to return home from my trip with a camera full of fish porn and a full review of the Patagonia Stealth Atom sling. Unfortunately I have neither. The trip turned out to be a good one as we spent Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on what is in my opinion one of the southeast's best tailwaters the Toccoa River. For those of you who actually pay attention to this little piece of cyber space you should recall all of the post's regarding the Toccoa and the struggles it has endured throughout TVA's most recent dam repair. Apparently within the last month or so TVA detected some form of ground movement at the damn and has decided to lower the lake 4 to 5 feet to evaluate the dam. The official statement reads:

"As you all know, TVA is assessing ground movement at the Blue Ridge Dam before going forward with additional rehabilitation of the facility. To assist in the evaluation, TVA lowered the reservoir water level about 4-5 feet to evaluate the dam, and TVA’s River Operations is holding the water level at approximately 1,668 feet. The dam is stable, and there have been no changes indicated by instrumentation readings. We have also installed six new monitors to help us further assess the situation. To help TVA understand the issue, the reservoir was lowered to assess conditions.

While drawdown has ceased, TVA may need to spill again if there is a significant amount of rain in order to hold the water level at 1,668. We still anticipate resuming recreation on the water this summer, as long as rain amounts this spring are normal. While TVA is currently holding the reservoir level steady, anyone fishing downstream of the dam should stay alert for fluctuating water levels due to rainfall or dam releases.

TVA anticipates trout populations will not be adversely affected by the water release due to the temperature of the water above and below Blue Ridge dam, and flow volumes being similar to what is seen during other reservoir drawdown periods or during times of normal generation resulting from spring rainfall events."

Basically for us this meant little fishing as the generation started early evening and continued well into the night. We did manage a float on Saturday and some fishing around the cabin but only came away with a few cookie cutter trouts' for our efforts. The fishing seemed slow and I feel like after being dealt the blows it has the river has a long road ahead for the fishing to return to the level it once was. Apart from that a good time was had by all. The accommodations were top notch, and the amount of cerveza's consumed was only topped by the number of lies told. I didn't take very many pictures this trip but I've got a few I'll share and be sure keep checking in for more worthless content to help pass the time while your forced to socialize with the in-laws.
